Who we are:  The West Virginia Legislative Claims Commission is a division of the West Virginia Legislature’s Joint Committee of Government and Finance. The Legislative Claims Commission is a legislative agency that hears claims filed against state agencies.  It also administers the West Virginia Crime Victims Compensation Fund, which provides financial assistance to qualified victims of criminally injurious conduct.

Position: Program & Outreach Coordinator/Deputy Clerk with the Legislative Claims Commission.

Summary of Position:  The Program & Outreach Coordinator/Deputy Clerk will work under the supervision of the Clerk of the Legislative Claims Commission and serve as the day to day administrator of the Crime Victims Compensation Fund.

The Program & Outreach Coordinator/Deputy Clerk will work with staff members of the Crime Victims Compensation Fund to further the mission of the Fund to provide financial assistance to victims of violent crime. This would include working with victim advocates, prosecuting attorneys’ offices, and law enforcement agencies to encourage and assist victims in applying for benefits, obtaining the required documentation for claim recommendations, and preparing the appropriate files for final review by a commissioner. The Program & Outreach Coordinator/Deputy Clerk will also work with community organizations that serve victims, lead presentations and seminars regarding the benefits available from the Fund, participate in appropriate boards and victim assistance programs, promote the Fund and its mission throughout the State of West Virginia and other duties as needed.

The Program & Outreach Coordinator/Deputy Clerk will also be available to perform any necessary tasks in assistance to the Clerk of the Legislative Claims Commission.

Qualifications:  Candidates for this position must have a college degree with strong public speaking and writing skills. Candidates should also have excellent computer skills.  Attention to detail, the ability to understand and present information clearly and the ability to meet deadlines are also necessary skills.
